Welcome to pre-school

Pre-school is all about your little one getting ready for school. Using the Read Write Inc programme alongside school we build the children’s foundations before introducing letter sounds. Learning through play continues to be at the heart of what we do whilst also fostering interest in those more complex tasks such as beginning to write their own name, early maths and literacy skills.

Children in pre-school also take part in the supervised toothbrushing scheme. Children brush their own teeth once during the session. A Betterstart initiative, this has been proved to significantly improve oral health in children under 5. We have also found it improves co-operation with toothbrushing at home too!!

Off to school….

Being part of school, the children already have a familiarity and confidence when being around the school site. Taking part in assemblies with Reception class, accessing the school library and taking part in whole site events really embeds the children’s place within our setting. The children are buzzing with excitement when they come to move through to school, having already begun to form relationships with the teachers and support staff, it really is the natural next step.

Simone Rowe

Nursery Teacher

My name is Simone, and I am very proud to be the Nursery Teacher at Thames Primary Academy. I have over 20 years’ experience within Early Years Education and thoroughly enjoy my role in providing children with exciting and enjoyable learning opportunities. Children this age are full of wonder and excitement and it is such a rewarding role to enable and encourage their growth and development. I have a degree that specialises in Early Years and I also hold an Early Years specialism PGCE (with QTS) teaching qualification. Both my work and educational studies have enabled me to have a vast range of experience and knowledge of working with young children.
My ethos is every child is unique and special, which is reflected in our teaching here at Thames. Every child is valued as an individual, and as a team, we strive to provide a safe and caring environment where all children feel secure and happy.
I am very lucky to work with an amazing and creative team of practitioners to create an enabling and engaging learning environment where the children learn through play. Children’s interests are valued and celebrated, creating the foundations behind our teaching.
My experience also includes teaching Reception classes, a child’s next big step after Pre-school! Children’s lives are full of new and unknown experiences, some of which can be quite daunting. Using my knowledge and experience of teaching Reception, I enjoy easing this process and providing positive experiences and learning opportunities that enable the transition to ‘big school’ to be a positive and enjoyable one for both the children and their families.
As a teacher, love and laughter are important ingredients in my timetable here at nursery- a child who is happy and confident, is a child that will learn and thrive.
